Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We’ve seen daily life in America upended during the global coronavirus pandemic. We’re all still adjusting to this new reality – practicing safe physical distancing while juggling work and family life at home, often with our children and pets making surprise video-call appearances. Our hearts and minds are with those most impacted by this crisis and with our fellow citizens doing all they can to keep our communities safe and healthy.
At Hirsch, we often reflect about the root definition of philanthropy – the love of humanity. Our collective role in philanthropy, in this current moment, is to step up and be bold, creative, and courageous. Our love and care for one another help us persist with strength and resilience.
We know that getting through this global pandemic will be both a sprint and a marathon. We can start where we live, acting rapidly and staying in it for the long haul. Together with the generous and inspiring philanthropists we partner with, we have quickly activated more than $5M following the crisis –touching everything from vaccine research to national food security to local relief efforts, including the launch of two response funds in San Francisco and Oakland.
Local, coordinated funds are effective vehicles for getting resources to those most in need. Please consider a generous contribution to these funds:
As we continue to navigate this new normal, here are some useful tips and lessons for how to give during this crisis:
Keeping you updated. At Hirsch, we’re continuing to work remotely and shelter-in-place for the weeks ahead – doing our part to stay safe, healthy, and help flatten the curve and slow exponential growth as best we can. You can expect the same responsive service to help you navigate these challenging times. Know that we’re here for you and will continue to update you about emerging opportunities.
